UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST

Going to fellowship with the rest of the body of Christ is something we are encouraged to do and it should be done with love, joy and faithfulness. As Paul says, “And let us consider one another to provoke (stir up) unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching,”(Hebrews 10:24-25).

What we call the church is you and I not the building as we normally call it. That is why Jesus is telling us , “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them,” (Matthew 18:20),so this plainly tells us that you and I are important and our fellowship with one another causes our Lord Jesus to be in our midst. However, today this scripture has been turned around to mean that it has to be in a specific building that the work of God has to be done. If it is prayer, it can be done anywhere not necessarily in that specific building.

We are living in the end times and such behavior is causing us to argue unnecessarily and we end up wasting precious time.We should be concentrating on matters of the Kingdom of God as the body of Christ. Ever wondered why people are lacking in zeal to serve in the work of God? It is because the enemy has infiltrated the church today, that instead of lifting each other up in encouragement we do the opposite. If a brother or sister is distanced from the congregation, it is the job of the rest of the body to go on their knees and ask for divine intervention on the matter. We need to reach out to the person and not to sit down in groups, calling each other and even preaching about how the sister is behaving.

What happened to working together and growing spiritually? If a person is lagging behind the rest of the church is to help that person catch up. They may need extra time in bible teaching, praying for their deliverance and not giving up on them by simply saying,”oh that one has backslidden’, or “they have no commitment”. We give up so easily on others forgetting we have a God who never gives up on us, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us,”-Romans 5:8.

How about team work, or is the church not supposed to work as a team? When our Lord Jesus is saying He will be in the midst of two or three that are gathered together, He literally means to assemble or collect and put together, which then makes one. That is unity. And you and I assembling together in whichever venue, then we are one item which Jesus calls His body, the church. In a team, there are different types of people, with different skill set, attitudes, cultures, colour, and language but with one common interest. A team works together and they set goals to achieve in fulfilling the vision of that team or organization. Now in the body of Christ it is the same thing, all are different but with a common denominator; the Kingdom of God.

Jesus comes into the midst of a united church and His presence then enables the church do exploits through His Holy Spirit. “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven,” (Matthew 18:19).

Our language should be one with that of heaven; Kingdom language. It is a language that moves heaven to action. A language of love, faith, righteousness, peace, joy, thanksgiving, and unity.

This kingdom language sees the good in others, thinks the good of others, and believes the good in others, not having the worst mindset about our neighbors. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these”,(Mark 12:30-31).In this time we are in, the church needs to be united in love and not in dissension, because the enemy`s work it to cause chaos wherever he goes.

As believers we are to follow the example of Christ, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me,” (John 17:21).

We have an audience watching us and how we shall live our lives here in this world.Being united will help us stand and achieve more. The body has different members all with different abilities but all equally important for that body to work. If one part of the body is not functional, the rest of the body will feel it. There will be weariness on the other parts as they are doing work meant for another. The same applies to the body of Christ. We need each person to hold their position and do it to the fullest with joy ,without murmuring, but lifting each other up when it gets tough on the way ,so that the race can continue.

We need to be on guard and not sleeping. “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”(Luke 21:34-36).Time is running out and there is a great need to come together and pray for one another. We are called to reach out to the unreached with the gospel of the kingdom, boldly witnessing about Jesus Christ to all nations of the world.
