Thoughts on 1 Samuel 15:23
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. 1 Samuel 15:23
This message was spoken then to Saul the first King of Israel. He failed to obey the instructions of God and did things to please man or self. If you read this chapter from the beginning you will understand what happened.
God hates sin because it gets in the way for us to relate with Him. He is holy and so must we be holy.
Obedience to God is of paramount importance. We are not to start asking Him why we need to what He is asking us to do. Our part is to obey. When we lack obedience, then we are in rebellion and that is as the sin of witchcraft, stubbornness is as iniquity and worshipping idols.
He is God, a just judge who requires holiness from us. His standard has never changed and will never change. Let us not take the grace and mercy of God for granted by living in disobedience. A king was dethroned because of disobedience.
May we not be found to have pride, rebellion or stubbornness in us.
