Glory In Our Sufferings

Updated: Oct 2, 2020

Thoughts on Romans 5:3-4

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:3-4

Every time my husband and I read scripture we are like, ‘that is very powerful’. It is like peeling an onion that has many layers to it. That is how scripture is, there are new revelations each time one reads the word of God.

Just thinking about the above scripture makes me realize again that nothing good and worthwhile comes easy. Sufferings can be a blessing in disguise. You may agree or disagree with me on this one, but many of the lives written about in scripture did not have smooth sailing.

The Apostle Paul wrote this Epistle to encourage the believers in Rome to not give up. He wanted them to look at suffering from a positive perspective. A believer’s life is molded through the perseverance which then, builds their character to that of Christ. There is hope for better things after the sufferings.

It does not matter how one started, what matters is how we finish. In between the race, we are running there will be ups and downs, detours and roadblocks, but we must remain focused on thanksgiving and faith. The minute we lose that, then we cannot overcome. So, let us hold fast to our hope in Christ because there is a glorious reward to those who wait and overcome till the end.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord Jesus, for You know what I go through. You are my strength and my reward. I look to You for guidance and strength. Even when I feel like giving up, help me to draw strength from You so that, I can continue running this race set out for me in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen
